Truncated Sleep

It’s 4:00 AM. At this point it feels dangerous to try and go back to sleep when I need to get up between 5 and 6 to get the kids ready for school. Dangerous because if I fall back asleep now I might accidentally sleep in. Sure, I can set an alarm. But, what if I turn the alarm off half asleep and then go back to sleep?

I’m not the one having trouble sleeping. Yes, I’m up now writing this post, but I’m only awake because my son couldn’t sleep. I had to get up and give him a snack, water, and send him back to bed.

Then the dog got up and wanted to go outside.

Then I thought, “Oh, I can fix that one thing at my website real quick.” So, I did. And, here I am.

Now that I’m here typing I actually have a strong desire to try and get another hour or so of sleep. Maybe I’ll try that.

It’s weird, computer/phone screens have an abnormal affect on me at night. I’ve always heard that you shouldn’t be on your phone at night because the light will keep you awake. But, for me, it will make me fall asleep faster. I’ve even dropped the phone on my face. Or now, typing on my laptop, I can barely get these sentences out because I just want to sleep now.

It’s almost like I’ve trained my brain to see an electronic screen at night and immediately want to sleep. Is that possible?

I hear my son getting up again. It’ll be an interesting morning and day for us both.
